Ateneo Blue Eagles grabs its first trophy at UAAP 77 Men’s Volleyball Finals.
The National University (NU) Bulldogs lead the first set but Ateneo Blue Eagles bags the next three sets putting down the defending champion 23-25, 25-23, 25-23 and 25-15 at UAAP 77 Men’s Volleyball Finals which was held in Mall of Asia Arena.
Ish Polvorosa was awarded Finals MVP. Other awardees in UAAP 77 Men’s Volleyball Finals -were Edward Camposano – Rookie of the year, Ish – Best Setter, Rence Melgar – Best Digger and Best receiver, Vince Mangulabnan – Best Sever, Peter Torres – Best Blocker, Mark Alfafara – Best Scorer, Eduardo Campusano – Roockie of the Year, and Marck Espejo – Best Spiker, Best Attacker and MVP.
Ateneo Blue Eagles first joined UAAP Men’s Volleyball in 1978.
According to Blue Eagles head coach Oliver Almadro, who was NU Bulldog’s former coach, this win was “long overdue.” He however believes that all happened in God’s plans – “God is never early, He is never late… A little patience, hard work and faith. It’s worth the wait.”said Almadro.
DLSU Lady Spikers moved to UAAP 77 Women’s Volleyball Finals
after defeating the NU Lady Bulldogs in their do-or-die game.
DLSU lead the fourth set with scores 26-24, 25-21, 21-25, and 22-19.
Injured Victonara Galang was named Player of the Game with 25 points . Her knee buckled as she landed her left foot awkwardly and was immediately brought to Makati Medical Center. A text message from DLSU athletic director Nonong Calanog: “Ara Galang update: Confirmed ACL tear, big bone bruise, MCL tear, medial meniscus tear.”
Social media was flooded with hastags congratulating the DLSU Lady Spikers and at the same time praying for Galang’s condition.
The DLSU Lady Spikers will face off with Ateneo Lady Eagles for the trophy this March 11, Wednesday, 3 p.m. at the Araneta Coleseum.
