Australian Boxer Brayd Smith dies after the fight with Filipino boxer John Vincent Moralde

Australian Boxer Brayd Smith who have collapsed shortly after losing a ten-round boxing match to Filipino fighter John Vincent Moralde eventually died on March 16 after being taken off life support.

To break the unfortunate news to Brayd Smith’s hometown on Toowoomba Australia was family’s spokeperson James O’Shea . It was reported that Smith suffered head injuries in his bout with Moralde.

Boxer Brayd Smith with a final record of 12-1 (10 knockouts) showed no signs of distress that would lead on to his deathbed. Though after the fight, there was bruising in his right eye and some redness in his eyebrow. After approximately 90 minutes after the fight,  Brayd Smith had collapsed in his dressing room. This was unexpected since he just took pictures with his opponent, John Vincent Moralde, and also mingled with fans .

Brayd Smith was reportedly admitted in two hospitals namely Toowoomba Hospital and Brisbane’s Princess Alexandra Hospital where he underwent induced coma and was hooked to life support. His family was there to held bedside vigil before the decision was made.

Known as the Brayd “The Great White” Smith , he is the son of a trainer, Brendon Smith, who guided Michael Katsidis to a lightweight championship.Brendon Smith also promoted the event. Prior to this fight, Smith was undefeated in the 12 fights he has contended.

Brayd Smith was 23 y.o has been engaged and was in his final year of studies for his Bachelor of Law degree at University of Southern Queensland.

In an interview with James O’Shea, who was close to Smith “He really wanted to change the image of boxing. A lot of times in this country the sport gets a bad rap. A big goal of his life was to show people it’s not (a bad sport).”

There was an outpour of support both from the boxing community , fans and local community. In social media,  #prayforbrayd has drawn comments describing Smith as ” a true getleman” in the boxing community.
