After Gilas lost its game with China in yesterday’s FIBA game with a score of 67-78, angry comments has spread like wild fire in social media. Spectators fumed over the referees’ questionable calls and other hassles that happened with the Gilas bus and tickets.
As a result, there were some who petitioned to boycott anything Chinese. From conventional hashtags in Twitter like #GilasPilipinas , came twisted ones – and ???
Yes Chinese fastfood chain Chowking was eventually dragged into the scene because the game was said to be “luto” and the contenders were Chinese or “intsik”.
Now Chowking did not skip this issue and also took it to their official Twitter account to speak their mind.
Here is Chowking’s reaction-
These funny tweets were posted by Chowking probably in an effort to lighten up the vexed Filipino fans. To add more fire ‘este fun, Chowking tweeted another post . This time it was referring to the UAAP Season 78 game between Ateneo and La Salle.
If this is just a marketing strategy to join the trend, many netizens have given their thumbs up on Chowking’s move. Spin.ph even said “Chowking tweet is classic amid fan fury at ‘Chinese cooking’ by refs.”
And stripping off the humor, looks like Chowking is a real Gilas supporter even before the brouhaha. This can be seen on their post last October 2 for the Philippines vs. Japan game.
