According to news reports, Viacom (owner of Nickelodeon) released an initial statement about the project . The 400 hectare resort is seen to be open in 2020. It would feature underwater restaurants and lounges that are 20 feet below sea level. This theme park is prepped up to be the “world’s first undersea attraction to be built in Asia.”
After this news came out , environmentalists and some Palawan residents had an adverse reaction. There were those who expressed concern on the destruction of Palawan’s marine ecosystem.
As we all know, Palawan is a Unesco World Heritage site. It is the home of a subterranean river and the Tubbataha coral reefs.
Now that the planned Nickelodeon under-water theme park is on hot waters, the firm partnering with Nickelodeon has attempted to tone down the “undersea” connotation.
“The only infrastructure in the water is floating and all developments are on land,” Coral World Park said in a statement.
Viacom on the other hand claims the project will advocate ocean protection.
