DOH (Department of Health) has commenced it’s program for free Dengue Vaccination.
3.5 million pesos budget was allotted for DOH’s free Dengue vaccination drive. Grade 4 students, aged 9 and above from public schools in NCR (National Capital Region ) , Region 3 (Central Luzon), and Region 4A (Calabarzon) will be the first batch of recipients of this vaccine. The vaccine will be administered three times every 6 months. After each shot, the student’s health will be continuously monitored.
Age range for the administration of this Vaccine is from 9 y.o to 45 y. o. Even those who were already inflicted with the dengue before can still be given the vaccine. In fact , Health Secretary Janette Garin stated that the vaccine is more beneficial for those who experienced this mosquito-born disease before since getting the infection 2nd time can be deadly.
Now to know more about this Dengue Vaccine, here is an FAQ sheet from DOH.
It was said that WHO (World Health Organization) has not pre-qualified the manufacturer of this Dengue Vaccine and that DOH is allegedly rushing the vaccination program.
Secretary Janette Garin clarified this and said that they are prepared in giving the free vaccination and this move will actually save more lives . She pointed out that the WHO pre-qualification would usually take 2-3 yrs at the minimum, which could already be too late for dengue patients.
“Hihintayin pa ba nating may mga batang mamatay sa dengue” she said.
DOH also guaranteed that they have consulted experts for the vaccine and assured that is duly licensed by BFAD (Burueau of Food and Drugs).
