Elaine Duran becomes first Tawag ng Tanghalan record holder

After defending her spot again today, Elaine Duran was hailed as the first ever Tawag ng Tanghalan record holder. This singer from Butuan had 10 straight wins as defending champion.

She beat challenger Jam Mariz Juane who sang “Better Days” in today’s TNT episode. Her rendition of Adele’s “When We Were Young” paved her way to the “Tawag ng Tanghalan Hall of Fame”.

When she was declared as a record holder, Elaine Duran tearfully said that she did not expect to reach where she is right now.

She shared that she auditioned in the first TNT seasons, but did not make it.

“Pero hindi po ako tumigil na sumali… Tapos hindi ko in-expect na aabot ako dito, kasi ang gusto ko lang makatuntong sa ‘TNT,’ kasi iba ang ‘Tawag ng Tanghalan, ” she said.

Elaine was then given the chance to choose from three “treasure boxes” that she was entitled. The first box contained additional  Php 50,000 cash prize.  The second box offers an opportunity for her to record a single with TNT Records. The third box,  contained  another “golden mikropono” which will give her the power in the semifinals by picking a song for her and her will-be opponent.

The “Bida sa Galing ng Butuan City” singer chose the first box. In total, she has won Php 310,000 prize money.
