2019 SEA Games (30th Southeast Asian Games)will be welcoming eSports as a regular event!
Philippine Southeast Asian Games Organizing Committee (Phisgoc) chair Alan Peter Cayetano announced that eSports will be a medal event in next year’s SEA Games. Philippines will be hosting the 2019 Southeast Asian Games (November 30-December 10,2019), which will be participated by 11 Asian countries.

He confirmed that eSports would be a regular event in the 11-nation Games that the country will be hosting next year. The 2017 SEA Games was held in Kuala Lumpur, Indonesia.
Phisgoc has created ad hoc committee for esports. It is in partnership with a leading global lifestyle brand based in Singapore for gamers called Razer.
According to an Inquirer article, “there will be six gold medals at stake for the discipline composed of two personal computer games, a pair of mobile events and two console games.”
A national qualifying tournament will be held where the best performers would be handpicked for the national pool.
Former president of the Philippine Olympic Committee Celso Dayrit, stressed that the eSports that would be part of 2019 SEA Games should not promote a culture of violence and gambling.
