In compliance with NTC’s Memorandum Order No. 10-10-2017, Globe and PLDT phone numbers with seven digits will be converted to 8- digits combination come March 2019.
This memorandum directs all telcos to migrate telephone numbers in Metro Manila to 8 digits from 7.
PLDT landline subscribers whose area code is 02 will have 8 digit numbers starting March 18, 2018. The number “8” will be added before the existing number, PLDT confirmed. Affected areas are Metro Manila, Rizal Province, San Pedro, Laguna and Bacoor, Cavite .
For Globe subscribers including Innove Communications Inc. customers that has an assigned area code of 02 as they will have an additional “7” at the start of their phone numbers (ex. (02) 7xx-xxxx) . For Globe’s another subsidiary, Bayan Telecommunications, Inc. change will be in this format from- (02) 3000-xxxx to (02) 3499-xxxx. Globe, the Ayala-led telco company said that customers may experience downtime on March 18, 2018 from 12 a.m. to 5 a.m while the transition is taking place. From March 18 to June 17, Globe said it will enable a special announcement to those who will mistakenly dial old seven-digit landline numbers to inform them of the new eight-digit format.
According to news reports, NTC (National Telecommunications Commission ) has ordered the migration to accommodate the “rapid growth” of landline customers in major cities.
