A great white shark surfaced in the shores of a town in Barangay Lobbot, Aurora, Baler.
Unfortunately, this shark specie that is considered as “vulnerable” by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), was already dead when locals found it.
The shark measured 17ft. which surprised a lot of residents. It was the first time for them to encounter a shark this size.
As per inspection of the carcass, it was reported that the shark had no wounds. It had small injuries around its mouth and some of its tooth sunk. It was suspected that the shark hit a hard object with its’ snout.
According to news reports, the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office of Aurora, Baler buried the carcass. It was no longer submitted for necropsy.
Photos of the dead shark was posted under a Facebook account of Eddie Fabrigas Rebueno.
In one of the comments, a netizen said that it was not an unusual sighting in Aurora Baler.
-Mang Jose
On the orthe hand, marine biologists confirmed that this is only the 4th sighting of a great white shark in the Philippines.
