British fight legend Ricky Hatton chimed in on the most talked about Pacquiao-Mayweather fight that will happen on May 02, 2015.
Ricky Hatton, one of the five common opponents of Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather, said that he’s giving the American the slight edge in the fight but also admitted that the Filipino slugger could “make life very difficult for him.”
“Manny is a great fighter but when you look at the trouble he had with the counter-punching style of Juan Manuel Marquez, he could be in a very serious trouble with Floyd Mayweather,” Hatton said in an interview with Tom Gray on RingTV.
Recognizing Manny’s recent accomplishments, Hatton added – “To be honest Manny has been looking better than ever since that knockout defeat with Juan Marquez…with that said, Manny will take a lot of heart from how Marcos Maidana was able to test Floyd and compete with him. For that reason, I give Manny a great shot in the fight because Mayweather has showed down a touch.”“
Hatton lost to Mayweather back in 2007 via technical knockout in the 10th round. He took another blow when he lost via a devastating 2nd round knockout with Pacquiao.
So after his encounter with both magificent boxers, this what Hatton message to Pacquiao reads- “I feel that Manny should box in and out against Mayweather, adopting a similar style to what he used against Oscar De La Hoya. Floyd’s shoulder roll defense wouldn’t be as effective and it would bring him out of his comfort zone…the last time that Floyd was forces to come forward against a speedy fighter was with Zab Judah in 2006 and he struggled early on. Imagine Manny bounching around, in and out, with Floyd hunting him down using the shoulder roll. Manny could make life very difficult for him (Mayweather) if he does that.” Hatton said.
“The Hitman” clearly respects both fighters but retains a soft spot for Manny Pacquiao.
Mayweather is simply not the type of person whom the Manchester man identifies with but he did not allow that to sway him in terms of a prediction.
However, Hatton also added that he is slighty lean towards Floyd but only by the narrowest of margin.
“Floyd always finds a way to win, no matter what style and that’s the reason that I make him a slight favorite over Manny,” he added.
Aside form Hatton, Mayweather and Pacquiao had common contenders namely Juan Marquez, Shane Mosley, Miguel Cotto and Oscar De La Hoya.
