An NBI Clearance is one of the required documents for job application in the Philippines. In some cases, an NBI Clearance is also necessary to apply for a visa to travel to another country or to apply for employment overseas. The application process can sometimes be a hassle especially for first timers who do not have an idea how long they have to wait before their clearance can be processed and eventually issued. Normally, hundreds of people wait in line every day from as early as 6:30 am until 3 pm before they can complete all the necessary procedures to secure their clearance. Although the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) has already set up satellite offices that process Clearance applications, the volume of people that usually turns up can make the procedure long and arduous.
To help first time applicants and those who intend to apply for a renewal of their NBI Clearance, here are the steps that must be followed in the application process.
Fill out the online form (downloadable from the nbi.gov.ph website)*. Make sure you fill in all the necessary fields.
Print out the accomplished form and take note of the Application Code.
Go to any NBI Clearance processing center for image capture and fingerprint biometrics
For “no hit” **applications, proceed to the Releasing Section for the printing and issuance of Clearance Certificate.
For applicants “with hit”, wait for the advice of the Releasing Officer to know where to proceed. The Releasing Officer will write the schedule when your clearance may be claimed at the back of your Official Receipt (O.R) or he/she may instruct you to proceed to the Quality Control Section where a Quality Control Officer will interview and evaluate your records before you are cleared and advised when to return to claim your NBI Clearance.
*You may also walk in to any NBI Clearance Branch to fill out the application form in the absence of an online form printout. However, this will take more time as you still have to wait in line to get a copy of the application form.
** “No hit” means no derogatory record while “with hit” means may have derogatory record.
