The case of Mary Jane Veloso draws turns of emotions to most Filipinos – from mourning when she was about to execute by Indonesian government, to relief when the execution was spared, and now to dismay after Mary Jane Veloso’s mother refuted government’s part to save her daughter.
Celia Veloso, mother of convicted filipina drug mule Mary Jane Veloso, said in a news conference held on Friday with Kilusang Mayo Uno and Migrante International, that there is no truth about the President being responsible why her daughter was spared from execution.
She also added that they arrived here in the Philippines to collect from government for it owes them a lot, because according to her, the government fooled them until the end.
“Humanda kayo. Nandito kami para lumaban. Haharapin namin kayo.” (Get yourselves ready. We’re here to fight. We will face you.), Celia said addressing the government.
These statements of Celia Veloso reaped criticisms from the people, especially from netizens. They called Celia ‘ingrata’ (ingrate) or ungrateful. Some said that she was just used by the militants to attack the government.
Here are some posts of netizens on twitter with hashtag #ingrata.
Public personalities Jim Paredes and Bianca Gonzalez also expressed their takes about the issue.
