A leukemia patient and student was smiling in her tears after being surprised by her school representatives in Mandaluyong on Tuesday. The student who is allegedly a leukemia patient was staged with a special graduation rite at the hospital in Cagayan de Oro City where she was undergoing treatment for leukemia.
The leukemia patient, Maria Julpha Villa, 20 years old was a student of Rizal Technological University (RTU) in Mandaluyong and took up a Bachelor of Science in Physical Education. She finished her studies to attain her ambition but was not expecting to attend commencement exercises on May 25.
Villa was reportedly diagnosed with with stage 4 acute mylogenous leukemia, or “cancer of the blood” in February.
As such, Maria Julpha, the leukemia patient was dressed with a toga and received her diploma and was awarded with a medal of excellence as her parents watched.
President of RTU, Dr. Jesus Rodrigo Torres said that school officials wanted Villa and her parents to be able to mark the completion of her studies, which she had wished for and worked towards for years.
Villa who was unfortunately a leukemia patient now had been a university scholar for 4 years due to her skills in the Filipino martial art of arnis.
However, her fight will continue although she finds each day a challenge due to her illness. Villa remains hopeful and prays to recover so she can achieve her dream of becoming a teacher.
In the video, as she was in a wheelchair, Villa was in tears of joy as the school representatives surprised her with a special graduation rite.
