Agot Isidro is being eyed by Liberal Party to join the their line-up for the 2019 mid-term elections.
On Monday, Senator Francis Pangilinan said that the idea was considered by the party when they had a meeting with the singer-actress about extra-judicial killings and China territory issue.
“Of course, she was hesitant. But then we said, precisely, that we need more women to step up and so she said, ‘Okay, you can consider it but let me think about it also. We’re still convincing her,” said the LP President in an interview.
Agot Isidro is a known critic of President Rodrigo Duterte.
In 2016, she went viral in when she called the President “psychopath” in her social media posts, referring to Duterte’s remarks against the United States.
There were mixed reactions among the netizens on this comment. Some supported her while many lambasted the actress in social media.
It was reported that when the Palace was asked for a reaction, Presidential Spokesperson Ernesto Abella said that the actress was entitled to her own opinion.
Abella however added, “we need to really hear what the President is calling Filipinos to do, which is be free from dependence on foreign aid, which is what the lady is fearful we will lose…The President is calling for Filipinos to be truly independent economically and mentally and psychologically”
Agot Isidro has yet to give her side yet for this story.
