Mayor Duterte of Davao is obviously pro-Filipino. As he made his candidacy public, he also announced that he doesn’t want a foreign leader for our country.
According to Philippine Star, Mayor Duterte of Davao said he decided to run for president because he was not pleased with the dismissal of the disqualification case against Sen. Grace Poe by the Senate Electoral Tribunal (SET). The Senator became a naturalized US citizen in 2001 and has renounced her American citizenship in 2010.
Reportedly, Mayor Duterte of Davao said he could not accept an American president, adding he would not mind if he loses, for as long as the winner is a Filipino.
“(If you aspire) for the highest post in the land, it must be reserved for a true-blue Filipino,” Duterte said.
“Give me an Igorot, an Aeta, a plumber. Kahit ano basta Pilipino. It is a matter of principle. Pag ganun my candidacy for the presidency is on the table,” he added.
Yahoo News also noted that another presidential candidate agrees with Mayor Duterte of Davao.
Liberal Party presidential candidate Mar Roxas gave this reply when asked if he has the same thoughts with Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte.
“Without any specificity, all of us do not want a foreigner to become the president, right?” Roxas said.
