Mayor Rodrigo Duterte of Davao City ended Saturday with a bang as he declare he is running for president. According to Manila Bulletin, he is speaking at a small gathering at the Orchard Golf Course Residences in Dasmariñas, Cavite when he announced his plans regarding his presidential candidacy.
While, Mayor Rodrigo Duterte’s plan is not yet formally acted upon, the Commission on Elections said that it is ready to study his Certificate of Candidacy (COC) if he will apply for a substitution in order to run as the head of the Philippine government.
According to The Philippine Star, Mayor Rodrigo Duterte decided to join the race for the highest position in the government after the Senate Electoral Tribunal voted against petition to disqualify Senator Grace Poe because of her citizenship.
“[If you aspire] for the highest post in the land, it must be reserved for a true-blue Filipino,” Mayor Rodrigo Duterte said.
Reports stated that the Davao City mayor said he cannot accept an “American president.”
“Give me an Igorot, an Aeta, a plumber. Kahit ano basta Pilipino. It is a matter of principle. Pag ganun my candidacy for the presidency is on the table,” he added.
Reportedly, Mayor Rodrigo Duterte is PDP-Laban’s substitute candidate since Martin Diño dropped his application.
