Medical City confirmed that they received fake anti-rabies vaccine , which may have been administered to patients last year .
The incident has been coordinated with Department of Health (DOH) at Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for testing . The batch of the said fake vaccines has been quarantined and has remained sterile.
According to Medical City, they are now directly sourcing the anti-rabies vaccine from the manufacturer, which is Zuellig Pharma.
Medical City President and Chief Executive Officer Dr. Eugenio Jose Ramos stated that –“The worst thing that can happen kung ang pasyente ay nakagat ng hayop, is walang effect ‘yung vaccine. Walang bisa. But that does not excuse the government… Tine-test na sila (mga pasyenteng naturukan) para malaman ang strength ng vaccine,”
FDA issued a warning last April 2018 about fake anti-rabies products circulating in the market.
In a news report by Journal online, it was said that Medical City got the fake
anti-rabies vaccine named VERORAB from a certain Geramil Trading that is located at 890 Purok 4, Longos, Calumpit, Bulacan and is owned by Genesis Bernardo.
DOH has issued a Product Recall advisory for this vaccine- ” The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) advises the public against the use of the following unregistered drug product with registered counterpart brand “Verorab””
An ABS-CBN news article stated that a patient , alias “Celine ” is worried as she was vaccinated last year. She confirmed that she received a letter last Tuesday from the hospital stating that the vaccine she received is fake.
DOH has also identified another hospital that received counterfeit anti-rabies vaccine.FDA is also checking hospitals in Pampanga and Bulacan who may have purchased from Geramil Trading.
