After receiving a terror threat, security at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA), has been heightened. The alleged terror threat was received through a text message.
In response to the the alleged terror threat, Combined forces of the Philippine National Police (PNP), Aviation Security Group (AVSEGROUP), Airport Police Special Operation Unit and their bomb disposal personnel and K-9 units were deployed to NAIA.
The terror threat sent to NAIA’s official text message center contains a message saying “ISIS next target Manila”.
According to reports, the sender of the text message used a commercial sim card. The message was reported to be received by a NAIA female staff, who in turn immediately informed the Office of the Assistant General Manager for Security and Emergency Services (AGM SES). The office then implemented the joint security paneling with PNP-AVSEGROUP.
On the other hand, Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) said in a statement confirming that the threat has been received through the agency’s hotline, 0917-TEXNAIA.
Despite it being a publicly-listed number, MIAA is not taking the message lightly. It said the message is being assessed with the help of other government agencies.
MIAA added that NAIA continues to be on full alert against attempts to disrupt airport operations.
Bomb-sniffing dogs from combined elements of the PNP and airport police have been deployed to all airport terminals as a precautionary measure.
