Pepe Smith, the OPM rock icon has passed away.
Daisy Smith-Owen, Pepe Smith’s daughter confirmed the news via a post in her Facebook account.
The post read- “Thank you for everything papa bear ko. Thank you for being the best dad in the world. I know youre in the best place now, no more pains papa.. i will see you in few days. I love you to the moon and back”
According to news reports, Daisy Smith-Owen stated that her father was rushed to the hospital early Monday. No details were given as to the cause of death.
Pepe Smith, the frontman of Juan dela Cruz band already suffered a 3rd stroke in November 2017.
Last June 2018, an outdoor rock festival titled Pepe Smith Rockfest was held in Amoranto Stadium. The event had more than 70 performing OPM bands.
Known for his stage name as Joey Smith or Pepe Smith, his full name is Joseph William Feliciano Smith. He was born December 25, 1947.
He had five children namely – Sanya Smith, Queenie Smith, Beebop Smith, Delta Smith and Desiderata Smith.
It was in 1970 that he joined Juan dela Cruz Band along with Wally Gonzales (guitar) and Mike Hanopol (bass), which is considered one of the pioneering rock bands in the OPM music scene.
Juan Dela Cruz band hit songs are “Ang Himig Natin,” “Beep, Beep,” “No Touch,” “Balong Malalim,” “Kahit Na Anong Mangyari,” “Inday,” “Panahon,” and “Titser’sEnemi No.1.”
