Effective January 2018, there will be an increase on the monthly Philhealth contribution.
Health Secretary Francisco Duque 3rd made the announcement last Friday in a forum held in Manila Hotel.
“Magtataas tayo ng [We will raise PhilHealth’s] premium contribution, 0.25 percent, effective January 2018,” he confirmed.
Duque stated that the adjustment is just timely as (Philhealth ) Philippine Health Insurance Corp. has already improved its benefit packages without increasing the premium contribution.
PhilHealth interim officer-in-charge/president Celestina dela Serna, explained why the increase is necessary.
“The adjustment in premium contribution rates will provide us with enough fiscal space to introduce more benefit packages, such as offering the Primary Care Benefit package to all other member-sectors, and to enhance existing ones,” said dela Serna.
Circular No. 2017-0024 of Philhealth published last October 27 announced the increase, hich it said is part of its strategy to ensure the sustainability of the National Health Insurance Fund.
According to Philhealth, the premium contribution of formal sector members, both in the government and private companies will be at 2.75% from the recent 2.25%.
The premium contribution is equally shared by the employer and employee, except for the kasambahays (house helpers). Household employers should pay the whole premium if salary of their kasambahays (house helpers) is less than Php 5,000.
The new Premium Contribution Table is already available for viewing in Philhealth’s website -(https://www.philhealth.gov.ph/partners/employers/contri_tbl.html) .
