A French Gymnast suffered a shocking accident at the Rio Olympics 2016.
26-year-old Samir Aït Saïd had a mishap last Saturday during the qualification rounds for the men’s gymnastics. After doing his act with the vault, he had a bad fall. His left leg folded beneath him, causing it to be broken. When landed, it will be seen that his broken leg was already hanging loosely.
Samir Aït Saïd saw what happened to his leg and was immediately horrified. It is also very apparent that he felt the pain. Some spectators claimed that they heard a sharp crack when it happened.
He was attended by paramedics and was brought out of the stadium in stretchers. It was confirmed that Samir Aït Saïd broke his tibia and fibula. He had to undergo a surgery to fix his broken leg.
Today (Monday), Samir Aït Saïd posted a facebook video saying he is all well. He acknowledged his teammates who still managed to perform after his accident.
““They managed to keep their act together after my fall. That must have been really difficult. They were real warriors. So come on boys, be strong, I’m with you.” he said.
Despite his horrific accident, this French gymnast did not lose heart and was even looking forward for the next Olympics.
“Believe me, the Tokyo 2020 adventure is still alive,” he added. “As soon as I’m recovered, believe me, we’ll go back to training and we’ll go after those Olympics.” he said with a smile.
