Roach to inspect Floyd’s gloves for Mayweather-Pacquiao fight

Only a few days away from Mayweather-Pacquiao fight, reports say that renowned boxing trainer Freddie Roach is cynic on one important detail for the fight of the century.

Floyd Mayweather Jr. was known to  have issues on gloves with previous fights. In May 2014 Mayweather’s bout against Marcos Maidana was nearly terminated by a disagreement with the gloves used by the latter. Mayweather was adamant to push the fight claiming” Maidana’s also custom-made Everlast MX gloves were poorly padded ” . Maidana unwillingly did what was asked then lost a close but majority decision to Mayweather.

So for the upcoming Mayweather and Pacquiao fight, Freddie Roach wants to scrutinize the gloves Floyd Mayweather Jr. will be using against Manny Pacquiao on May 2 in Las Vegas

The two boxing icons were permitted to use gloves of their choice for the Mayweather-Pacquiao fight.  Floyd Mayweather Jr opted to use Grant glove.

In an interview with , Roach expressed said “”Grant is doing his gloves, and they’re all custom-made, and I’d like to know what he’s using — like what he’s putting in those gloves, and what materials they’re made with,”

He further expressed his skepticism “I’m a little bit worried about the weight of the gloves, and the padding, because I know that Floyd has a little bit of fragile hands…”It’s something that runs in the family. I think that they all can punch really well but they have small hands. I’m a little concerned about the custom-made gloves that Floyd’s going to wear.

On the other hand, Manny Pacquiao will use Reyes gloves. According to Roach the Reyes gloves are “made by machine in Mexico”. He further described it saying “They’re the same all the time. They’re very standard. Top Rank has a warehouse full of them. They’ll grab 10 pairs, and we’ll pick our gloves from one of the ten,”

Freddie Roach will get to inspect the eight-ounce Grant-brand gloves when both sides sign off on the gloves Friday night at MGM Grand, in conjunction with weigh-in and the pre-fight rules meeting.
