As Harvey will be the Miss Universe 2017 host, he wants to personally apologize to Filipinos of the mistake he made on last years’ Miss Universe.
It was all known that last year, Harvey named the wrong winner in the prestigious beauty pageant instead of the country’s bet Pia Wurtzbach as the new title-holder. Thus, Harvey will be personally dealing with his mistake, Tourism Undersecretary Kat de Castro said.
During the pageants announcement of winner, Harvey mistakenly named Miss Colombia Ariadna Gutierrez as the new Miss Universe, when the title was supposed to go to Wurtzbach. He has since asked for forgiveness from both the Filipina beauty queen and Gutierrez.
“He wants to apologize to the Filipinos who were hurt because of what happened,” de Castro told DZMM.
He also added that President Duterte was shocked of learning that Steve Harvey will be Miss Universe 2017 host.
“Nagulat din siya. Sabi niya, ‘Bakit?’ Dagdag pa niya, ‘He is a disaster.’ Ginanun ako ni Presidente. Eh sabi ko, Sir, mukhang iyon na po talaga ang naging desisyon ng mga taga-Miss Universe.’ Tumawa na lang siya,” De Castro shared.
Base on reports from American news, Harvey has a multi-year contract with Miss Universe which has been signed days before airing the 2015 pageant. Accordingly, it was stated in the contract that the deal is to last for three years or possibly even as many as seven.
