December 8 was first declared a holy day of obligation for Catholics in 1708 by Pope Clement XI and is generally considered as family day in a number of countries including the Philippines.  As such, some Catholic schools suspend classes and work on the said day but it is not considered an official holiday unlike Christmas Day and All Saints Day, which ironically, is not recognized by the local Church hierarchy as a holy day of obligation.

More updates on suspension of classes as soon as they become available.
