Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) will bring “Mobile Earthquake Simulator” around cities to demonstrate the motion created by an earthquake from magnitude-7 and above. The campaign is to make people aware of the dangers they might encounter once the ‘Big One’ strikes especially those who are residing near or on top of the West Valley Fault.
The MMDA, in cooperation with Department of Education (DepEd) and Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs), will coordinate with the barangay officials to show the Mobile Earthquake Simulators to the residents and come up with an action plan.
Essential thing to remember during earthquake:
Don’t panic. Stay calm.
Do the “Duck, Cover, and Hold” position
Stay inside until the shaking stops.
Move only when it is safe to go out.
Clear away from tall objects that might topple over or high objects that might fall.
Watch out for falling debris.
If outdoors, go to open areas.
Stay clear of weak structures and power lines.
If inside a vehicle, stop and stay inside the vehicle as safety permits.
Stay away from trees, posts, power lines and high rise structures.
MMDA will conduct a Metro Manila Shakedrill 2015 which will be held on July 30 at 10:30 in the morning and Pasig City comercial business district (CBD) will have another round of earthquake drill at 7:30 pm.
